See the Terracotta Army

Xi'an, Shaanxi, China

In 210-209 BCE, Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China buried an army of soldiers, chariots and horses, in three pits, to act as his protecting army in the afterlife.  It is estimated that the pits containing the Terracotta Army held more than 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses, and 150 cavalry horses, the majority of which still remained buried near Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum.
